How to solve a Megaminx with this solver

Solver and measured move counts
A fast multi-phase solver running in a Web Worker: it builds the puzzle face by face with small search tables and finishes the last layer with a two-look table of generated algorithms. On 1000 random positions it needed 120.1 moves on average (at most 135, WCA-style HTM: every 72° or 144° face turn counts 1) in about 34 ms. The solutions are not optimal.
Notation
Face turns (white on top, green in front): U F R L BL BR for the top and upper faces, D FL FR DL DR B for the bottom and lower faces. No suffix is 72° clockwise, ' counterclockwise, 2 is 144°. WCA Pochmann scrambles (R++ R-- D++ D-- U U') are accepted too.
What the permutation graph shows
Every one of the 132 stickers is a node. The stickers are placed by a stereographic projection of the dodecahedron from the bottom center, so every face turn moves stickers in 5-cycles along true circles: the upper faces give rings around the middle, the lower faces five big petals. The graph animates the solution move by move.
Frequently asked questions
Is the solver free, and are my photos uploaded?
It is free and runs entirely in your browser. Camera images and photos are processed on your device and never uploaded. The site counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies; Google Analytics is loaded only if you accept it in the banner, and you can change that choice in the footer.
Is the solution the shortest possible?
No. Optimal Megaminx solving is far out of reach; this solver is built for speed and returns a complete solution of about 120.1 moves in a fraction of a second.
Can I scan my Megaminx with the camera?
Not yet: camera scanning is available for 2×2 to 15×15 cubes. Paint the stickers on the net (it takes about a minute) or type the scramble in notation.
